SECURITY INNOVATION TO ADDRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF
WEB APPLICATION SECURITY AT WEBSEC 2006

Security Innovation Showcases ‘Hackerland’ Security Challenge

WEBSEC─LONDON, UK—March 15, 2006 - Security Innovation, the independent authority on application security development and assessment, today announced that Fabien Casteran, senior security engineer, will be presenting “Web Security Paranoia: Myths & Realities” at MIS Training’s 9th Annual WebSec 2006 Conference on March 29, 2006, at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel, Kensington, London, UK.

Security Innovation will also be sponsoring an interactive Web security competition titled ‘Hackerland Challenge’ which will allow participants of all skill levels to try their hand at locating security vulnerabilities. Participants are encouraged to uncover both common and obscure security flaws in a Web site built expressly for this challenge. The winner will have proven his/her outstanding skills in identifying and exploiting the maximum number of vulnerabilities after two days.

Applying his many years of experience testing and assessing Web applications, Mr. Casteran will discuss the aspects of Web application security that are so often and dangerously overlooked. He will address the misperceptions of Web application security, which can often lead to a false sense of security. Additionally, he’ll focus on the significance of insider and exterior threats that make Web applications so vulnerable and often misunderstood.

“The Hackerland Challenge will bring to light the complex challenges that application developers must address. Participants will be able to take this experience back to their organizations and conduct better internal testing,” said Ed Adams, CEO of Security Innovation. “The competition will allow participants to come away with a strong understanding of the genuine vulnerability types found in Web applications, and Fabien’s presentation should provide attendees with a clear, concise look at the misconceptions inherent in Web security.”
