Security Innovation Announces Cybersecurity Beanpot Challenge

Wilmington, MA – October 30, 2018 – Security Innovation, a pioneer in software security, will facilitate the first Cybersecurity Beanpot event on October 30, 2018 in Boston, MA. Created in conjunction with Suffolk University, the Cybersecurity Beanpot evolved from both organizations’ mutual passion to increase the emphasis on software cybersecurity education. Students from Suffolk University, Boston College, Northeastern University & UMass/Lowell will gather to test their skills in a fun and educational live hacking contest using Security Innovation’s cyber range product – CMD+CTRL, the only cyber range dedicated to cybersecurity for software and development teams.

This contest pits student teams against each other as they race to find vulnerabilities within the authentic, immersive Shadow Bank cyber range environment. The half day Cybersecurity Beanpot invites students to release their inner hackers to win individual prizes. The team with the highest collective score will take home the coveted Cybersecurity Beanpot trophy for their school. To help students prepare, Security Innovation is providing students with access to its computer-based training.

“We are excited to sponsor this event,” stated Ed Adams, president and CEO of Security Innovation. “There is a talent gap in cybersecurity. In fact, we recently conducted a survey of more than 400 executives that revealed the lack of skilled personnel was the top reason they cannot adequately defend against cyberattacks.” Adams continued, “With 75% – 90% of attacks happening through software, our goal is to make cybersecurity training fun and engaging for development and security teams alike. CMD+CTRL provides an authentic, hands-on learning experience to train the next generation of cybersecurity teams on the newest threats. We are excited to share this experience with students.”

Designed to draw attention to the importance of software security to combat threats, this event will provide real-time scoring, quick training clinics, help guides and personalized reports with educational recommendations for all participants. The winner of this challenge will receive a $5,000 scholarship. All participants will receive access to the CMD+CTRL platform for the remainder of the semester so they can continue training.
